Scrap Yarn Potholder Loom Rug

My lovely Yarn stash!
I was cleaning my craft room and opened up 5 - 16 x 18 packaging boxes of yarn that I had not looked at since I moved to a new apartment. I found a galore of yarn back from my crochet addiction days.I started crocheting in 2010 and since then I have collected almost every color possible of yarn. Crochet days are left behind. I only crochet when I am a passenger in the car (which is a rare case). Even if I crochet like before I would not go through this yarn as I do other crafts too. Now what should I do! I have put on my thinking hat and trying to figure out what should I make from a humungous yarn stash! Think! Think! Think!

Ideas are here! I have three projects in mind. I will showcase each individually here and show my progress.
For my first project, it is going to be a 5' x 5' of rug for my son. He has learned how to roll now. He starts to roll over as soon as I put him down to play. To avoid him breathing in the dust from the carpet, I place his blanket on the floor before I let him play. But his blanket is too small and he rolls out of it in no time. So I have decided to make a Rug using my yarn stash and potholder loom. I was inspired to make the rug from a young girl on Youtube (click on YouTube to check her video). I will be updating every week, my weekly progress onto my rug. I will also make a video on my YouTube Channel on using yarn with Potholder loom soon.
To make a 5' x 5' rug, I will need to make 100 potholder pieces. A daunting task but hoping to get it done before the end of February.

Work in Progress Potholder loom

Week 1: January 18th - January 24th 2017
The weekly updated on my yarn will be on Wednesdays. This is how the starting of the potholder loom work looks like. I have 2 looms which lets me and my mother work at the same time (Of course only if my son is sleeping that is!). Making potholders with yarn are so much fun and relaxing and hardly takes more than 30 minutes to make one. Less if you do not have a chirpy baby! HeHe! Below are the first week potholders pieces my mum and I made. Not much of progress but still happy. It was a learning process, so initially it took some time to get used to with the technique. We made 10 potholders. Woohoo! 10 down, 90 more to go.

Week 1: January 18th to January 24th 2017

Week 2: January 25th to January 31st 2017
A slow progress this week. Only made 10 more of the potholders. In general, this week had been slow on my art and craft progress. I have not uploaded any videos on my YouTube channel. A little challenging week. Hoping for a better one next week. Here are the 10 new potholders that we made. 20 down,80 more to go!
Week 2: January 25th to January 31st 2017

Week 3: February 1st to February 7th 2017
A better week - not that great but better than the 2 earlier weeks. With the help of my mother I made 14 potholders. This week I uploaded a Macrame Jewelry Set Vlog (Click here to check out the tutorial) Thinking of being able to make about 20 more next week. 34 down, 66 to go! Excited about the progress that I am making on my baby's rug.
Week 3: February 1st to February 7th 2017

Week 4: February 8th to February 14th 2017
I mentioned earlier last week I would make 20 more potholders this week and guess what everyone, I reached 20 potholders this week - obviously with the help of my mother. Extremely happy about the work covered this week. Also I was able to upload one more video on my YouTube Channel - DIY T-shirt Embellishment (Click here to check the tutorial). I am hoping for a good next week, but I am not sure if we will be able to make a lot. Hoping for 10 more next week. 54 down, 46 to go!!

Week 4: February 8th to February 14th 2017
Week 5: February 15th to February 21st 2017
This week as I had already predicted was not a good one. I was not able to make any potholders myself but thanks to my dear mom, she made about 7 this week. I had a couple of reasons, I tripped over from the staircase and fell spraining my ankle and was not feeling hundred percent to do anything. Secondly mom and I are working on some new project (Hush! Hush! it's a secret for now) which took up most of our weekend. In all this, I was not able to make any video tutorials for my YouTube Channel. So overall this week was terrible for my current WIP but we were happy with the work on the new project. Prediction for next week 10 more potholders. 61 down, 39 to go!

Week 5: February 15th to February 21st 2017
Week 6: February 22nd to February 28th 2017
A better week than last made 11 more potholders. Planning to complete all 100 by next week so the following week I can start joining them. 72 down, 28 to go!

Week 6: February 22nd to February 28th 2017
Week 7 and 8: March 1st to March 14th 2017
Last week I could not make any updates as I was super busy at work. We were working overtime and I got super tired to do any craft. I had such a hectic week and weekend I could only make 10 potholders in two weeks. Super bad weeks for crafting but at least got closer to the goal. I also uploaded a loom knitting hat tutorial on my YouTube Channel. Please do check it out. 82 down, 18 to go!
